If the end-use of your product is high traffic, health care or scientific applications anti –microbial coatings should be a consideration. Advanced Finishing has been at the forefront in the application of anti-microbial finishes that inhibit the growth and transmission of microbes. Our experience can provide a cost effective solution.

Anything that can be powder coated in a medical, lab or high-traffic public setting can include anti-microbial technology. In fact, anti-microbial powder coated surfaces in some cases may be preferable to the use of stainless steel where the disinfecting process may be flawed. By contrast anti-microbial reaction continues to take place until the entire coating is worn away. Typical application include:

  • Hospital and Medical Facilities
  • Lab & testing equipment
  • Schools and Campuses
  • High traffic areas
  • Senior Citizen Living
  • Railings
  • Door pulls
  • Transit car grab rails
  • Medical Durable equipment
  • Bed frames
  • Table tops
  • Doors
  • Lighting

Virtually any powder coating compound can be mixed with anti-microbial material including dye-sublimation coatings such as wood-grain, stone or marble finishes. Advanced Finishing U.S.A. strives to use only environmentally friendly materials, and takes pride in maintaining a zero discharge status with the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.

The addition of anti-microbial additives to the powder will add approximately 10% to 20% to the cost of powder coating.

Because the anti-microbial additive is homogeneously dispersed through the coating material it will last as long as the coating itself. As the coating wears it exposes more anti-microbial material. As long as there is coating there is protection.

Typically stainless steel products cost more than products made of another material then powder coated using anti-microbial additives. In addition, Stainless Steel does not have anti-microbial properties, it is dependent on how effectively it is cleaned each time. Products that are powder coated with anti-microbial additives allow continuous reduction in microbe population. Anti microbial powder coating properties are always present on the coating.
